Seen as a premier conference venue, South Korea provides world-class infrastructure for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE). This destination also attracts the Vietnamese tourist market, which is considered a key market of South Korean MICE tourism agencies.

According to the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), Vietnam - South Korea tourism exchange has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years, with Vietnamese tourists travelling to the East Asian nation on a steady rise. In 2019, South Korea is expected to welcome 277,000 Vietnamese tourists, up 31.2% over 2018 - a high growth for the South Korean tourism sector.

At the “Korea MICE Roadshow 2019” held in Hanoi in mid-July, the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) affirmed that Vietnam is one of the key markets of South Korea’s tourism, not only individual travelers but also MICE tourists.

According to KTO, in the first six months of 2019, MICE tourists from Vietnam, supported by KTO, reached nearly 34,000, an increase of about 25% from the same period in 2018.

Giving explanation to this good result, Mr. Jo Deok Hyun, Executive Director of the Korean MICE Tourism Bureau at KTO, said, with travelling convenience and positive visa policy changes, South Korea hoped to continue to be an attractive destination for Vietnamese tourists and make them comfortable and satisfied in South Korea.

He also stressed South Korea’s advantages for MICE tourism development. Particularly, besides Seoul, South Korea has 11 MICE cities like Busan, Gyeonggi, Incheon, Gangwon and Jeju. These cities all have their own distinctive charm. While Incheon is a smart city equipped with the most advanced conference facilities and lies close to the international airport, Busan is known as the main cargo port with many diverse hotels and resorts.

In addition to uniquely-designed conferences and natural spaces, the traditional beauty and the Hallyu cultural wave are said to be among the magnets for MICE tourists to South Korea.

MICE tourism development is a practically suitable direction because this new prospective field brings in high economic efficiency and helps raise tourism quality and performance. South Korea and Vietnam are stepping up tourism development cooperation. The “Korea MICE Roadshow 2019” will build a bridge for South Korean MICE service providers and Vietnamese travel businesses. South Korea will be a favorite destination for Vietnamese MICE tourists. The former is committed to making every effort to improve travel service quality to make Vietnamese tourists comfortable and satisfied in South Korea.
