No matter the time, place, or subject of his work, Entrepreneur Le Van Thua always tries his best to focus his thoughts and ways of doing for the younger generations in his family and the community.

Raised with revolutionary tradition

Thua was born into a family of revolutionary tradition in 1938 in Phu Thinh village, Lang Son commune, Yen Dung district, Bac Giang province. He has five siblings. His father (Le Van Nham, also known as Ky Thoa) and his eldest brother (Le Van Thoa) are both martyrs (heroically sacrificed during the resistance war against France, the First Indochina War).

Inspired by his father’s and his brother’s glorious sacrifice to the revolution, at the age of just 16 years, Thua joined the army and was trained at Tran Quoc Toan Cadet School (China). Returning the home country, he was assigned to the armed police and then transferred to the army. He was delegated to the Air Defense Division of the Air Force and held various positions: Head of regimental logistics unit, the teacher at the 300 Military School, head of divisional logistics unit, and a division head at the Air Defense Division of the Air Force. Then, he was sent to the battlefield in southern Laos and he retired in 1983 with the rank of major.

Returning his birthplace after 30 years, he actively participated in labor and production forces. With his exemplary deeds and conduct in social activities, he was elected as Secretary of the Party Committee by Party members and head of the Production Force by cooperative members. With his own efforts, after only a few years, he and his members created many innovations for their homeland.

When he worked on the farm, Thua deeply understood the challenges of farmers who had to work on the field every day but were exposed to heavy losses due to pests and diseases. Therefore, he came up with the idea of trading plant protection medicines.

Savior of farmers

Starting a small pesticide outlet for Vietnam Antiseptic Company and Central Plant Protection Joint Stock Company No.1 in Xuong Giang Street, Bac Giang City, in response to the renovation policy of the Party and the State, he set up a project to establish Viet Thang Co., Ltd in April 1994 with 13 initial employees. Later, the company grew to four production factories and a distribution outlet system to sell “Vithaco - Viet Thang” branded pesticides all over the country. He was the General Director of a company with hundreds of employees.

Viet Thang Co., Ltd has a total of 375 employees, of whom 49 held college, university and doctoral degrees and the rest graduated from vocational and technical schools. Especially, the company also has the Party Committee with 34 members, the Trade Union with 171 unionists, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union with 23 members; and the Veterans Committee with 24 members.

Being passionate to find new things, active and creative to tackle weaknesses, and promote strengths, Le Van Thua, a veteran and a businessman, overcame all hardships standing in the way. After more than 25 years of operation, Viet Thang Co., Ltd quickly secured its position and prestige in both domestic and international markets. Its products are practical, highly economically effective for agricultural production, and he has been thus dubbed the ‘savior’ by farmers. These products are also highly appreciated by central and local authorities and have been awarded many prizes.

Dedication endeavor

The company has four factories, including two in Song Khe - Noi Hoang Industrial Zone, Bac Giang province (bottling and packaging pesticides and making packages), one pesticide bottling, packaging plant in Long An province and one packaging factory in Hoc Mon district, Ho Chi Minh City, and has five branches: Bac Ninh, Hanoi, Quang Nam, Ho Chi Minh City and Long An.

More notably, “Vithaco - Viet Thang” branded pesticides have helped repel epidemics against rice, crops and industrial plants across the country and thus built up trust among farmers.

The book “The son of Phu Thinh village” by author Tran Quyen, member of the Bac Giang Literature and Arts Association, published by the Culture and Information Publishing House in 2007, portrays Le Van Thua as a brave soldier and a resilient businessman. Despite his old age, he still closely and flexibly runs the company. He constantly strives to cultivate management experience, knowledge and methods, promote the strength of unity and consensus that he instilled and inherited from his family’s glorious revolutionary tradition. These lessons continue to be passed down through Le family generations and positively help the community, homeland and the Fatherland.
