Information and Communications Technology: Empowering Social Security Innovations

Themed “Information and Communications Technology: Empowering Social Security Innovations”, the 36th ASSA Board Meeting was held in Brunei on September 17 and 18, 2019. The meeting was attended by experience-sharing representatives from the International Labor Organization (ILO), the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and representatives of 20 ASSA member agencies.

As the ASSA Chair for the term 2018-2019, Deputy Minister of Finance and General Director of the Vietnam Social Security (VSS) Nguyen Thi Minh delivered the opening speech to ASSA 36, stressing that, in the past year, ASSA member organizations has carried out the Joint Declaration signed at ASSA 35 and concretized by the Action Plan with a variety of practical and content-rich activities; and upheld cooperation efforts, mutual support, information exchange, and sharing of effective practical experience to promote social security development in the spirit and the ultimate goal that ASSA set out from the outset. Achieved results are vivid proof of cooperation efficiency among 20 ASSA member organizations and matched with the potential and strengths of each member as well as ASSA as a whole.

During the 2-day gathering, delegates reviewed the performance of the ASSA Action Plan for the term 2018 - 2019, assessed the coordination and organizational role of the Vietnam Social Security as the Chair and General Secretary of ASSA 2018-2019. The publication on 20-year ASSA, compiled, edited and published by the Vietnam Social Security, introduces 20 member organizations along with important 20-year ASSA milestones.

Delegates from 20 member organizations of the ASEAN Social Security Association (ASSA) exchanged viewpoints and shared experiences in implementing issues around the overarching theme of “Information and Communications Technology: Empowering social security innovations”. Typical representations included “Technology for Social Security: International Trends and Vision” by the International Social Security District (ISSA); remarks and forecasts on social security and future jobs by the International Labor Organization (ILO); the roadmap for deployment of a multimedia interaction system for people and businesses by the Vietnam Social Security (VSS); information system deployment experience by the Myanmar Social Security Board (SSB); biometric procedures for registration of enjoyment through the unique identification policy by the Indonesian Employees Social Security System  (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan).


ASSA Awards 2019 are presented to member organizations

In the framework of the meeting the Vietnam Social Security - as the ASSA Chair - presided over the ASSA Awards Ceremony 2019, presenting 18 awards in 6 categories to representatives of 18 member organizations. In particular, VSS was presented the award for “Promoting administrative procedure reforms, improving service for people and businesses”.
