Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Secretary General of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and Director of the Business Office for Sustainable Development, recently hosted a meeting with Mr. Jeffrey Schlagenhauf, Deputy General Secretary of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), at the VCCI Head Office. The guest arrived in Vietnam to attend the 10th Regional Conference on Preventing and Combating Corruption in Infrastructure Projects in Asia Pacific.

At the meeting, Secretary General Nguyen Quang Vinh welcomed the OECD, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Anti-Corruption Initiative for Asia Pacific, choosing Vietnam for the 10th Regional Conference and appreciated the effective cooperation between OECD and VCCI in recent years.

He added that 2020 will be an important year for VCCI as it is chair of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN BAC). VCCI hopes to receive effective consultancy and cooperation from the OECD.

As director of the Business Office for Sustainable Development, Mr. Vinh also stressed on the role of sustainable development in improving business competitiveness, thus enhancing corporate governance. These are very important for Vietnam’s development in general and business community development in particular. VCCI has gradually approached OECD standards in improving competitiveness and sustainability indices for the business community. Therefore, in the next phase, VCCI hopes OECD will further support its priority areas.

For his part, the OECD Deputy Secretary General hoped that Vietnam, in which VCCI represents the business community, will promote its consulting role in developing OECD's Economic Outlook for Southeast Asia and play a part in business sustainability. OECD is willing to cooperate with VCCI in building business community development strategies.
