AFA Research Project into SMEs Supported by ACCA and CA ANZPosted: Thursday, February 09, 2017
The ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA) is calling for proposals on research relating to SMEs in the ASEAN region, with a grant of SGD 20,000, which is co-sponsored by AFA, ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and CAANZ.
The academic-style research will focus on establishing the definition and characteristics of SMEs in the ASEAN region, and identifying the role of PAOs (Professional Accountancy Organisations) in assisting ASEAN SMEs.
Andrew Smart, ACCA’s head of Emerging Markets Asia said: “This is an important project and we are pleased to be supporting it. We hope that key universities, think-tanks and policy institutes apply to take this project forward to offer insights about how SMEs are developing in the wide ASEAN geographic area.”
Lee Whitney, General Manager Australia and Overseas from CA ANZ, added: “We believe this is an exciting international opportunity, and we also anticipate that respondents who have an interest in SMEs and the ASEAN region will also apply for this important research proposal. SMEs are often seen as the driving force of many economies, but we need to know more about their development and future direction.”
Aucky Pratama, Executive Director, ASEAN Federation of Accountants concluded: “Our objective is to conduct research on SME issues that are relevant to stakeholders in the Southeast Asia region, most importantly, the SMEs and the accountancy profession itself. We want to hear about the opportunities and challenges for SMEs in the current economy; the future economic outlook of the region; the latest development of the accountancy profession in the region and globally; and the latest discussions relevant to professional standards such as auditing and ethics. We also feel there is scope for comment about SMEs and the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).”
Proposals should be submitted no later than 5pm (Jakarta time) on 23 February 2017. The successful proposal will be announced by 24 March 2017. The term of the award is 8 (eight) months, effective from the agreed research commencement date, with the project expected to be completed by 25 November 2017.
Research proposal can request up to SGD20,000 for undertaking this project. Research proposal and all related inquiries shall only be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org and further details about the award are on the AFA website www.aseanaccountants.org
