CPI Sees Year-On-Year Increase of 4.96 Pct in Q1

 The nation’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) in March increased 0.21 per cent against February and up 4.56 per cent from the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office, under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

The CPI in the first quarter of the year saw a year-on-year increase of 4.96 per cent.

Eight out of 11 commodities saw increases in prices. Medicines and health care service group saw a price rise of 7.51 per cent while restaurants and food services, hats, garments and footwear and beverage and tobacco witnessed price decreases of 0.87 per cent, 0.12 per cent and 0.02 per cent, respectively.

The prices of telecommunications and transport groups picked up 0.03 per cent and 0.39 per cent, respectively.

The CPI in January, February and March was recorded at 5.22 per cent, 5.02 per cent and 4.65 per cent.
