Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh asked relevant agencies and cities to speed up preparations for the hosting of APEC 2017, and to seriously exercise the principle of economy, considerateness and respect.
On April 5, 2017, at the Government Palace, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Committee for APEC 2017 Pham Binh Minh chaired the 7th plenary session with the participation of representatives from 24 ministries, agencies and cities who are members of the National Committee for APEC 2017.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh asked members of the National Committee for APEC 2017 to review work in first quarter of 2017, especially the organisation of the first meeting of first Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM 1) and related meetings as well as discuss preparations for upcoming events. He also instructed members of the National Committee for APEC 2017 to report on preparations for APEC 2017 activities, particularly those for the summit week in Da Nang City in November 2017.
After listening to the report by Vice Chairman of the National Committee for APEC 2017 and Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and other committee members, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh praised the effective coordination and efforts of committee members, Khanh Hoa province and Nha Trang City in successfully organising the SOM 1. Both organisation and content were praised by APEC members.
He noted that SOM 1 demonstrated the broad support and consensus of APEC members for the theme of the APEC Year 2017 “Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a Shared Future” and four key priorities: Promoting sustainable, innovative and inclusive growth; fostering regional integration and connectivity; supporting micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the digital era; enhancing food security and sustainable agriculture and adapting to climate change.
In the second quarter of 2017, APEC Vietnam 2017 events will focus on Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Trade (Hanoi, May 19 - 21, 2017), the High-Level Policy Roundtable on Human Resources Development in Hanoi (May 11-15), the High-Level Policy Roundtable on Sustainable Tourism (Ha Long, June 18 - 19), the Senior Finance Officials’ Meeting (Ninh Binh, May 18 - 19) and SOM2 (Hanoi, May 9 - 18). These events will be important in defining directions of APEC cooperation in 2017
While placing an emphasis on the success of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week with Vietnam’s identity, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh instructed ministries, agencies and Da Nang City to speed up all-aspect preparations as planned and scheduled, particularly in the current context of volatile global development. He stressed that the close cooperation and consensus of all localities and businesses is essential.
