Phu Quoc - Ideal Investment Destination

Not only being the resort paradise, dubbed the Pearl Island of Vietnam, Phu Quoc is also an ideal investment destinations. This place gathers many 5-star hotels, resorts and the most modern amusement parks in Vietnam.

Focusing on major projects
With huge tourism advantages and many new policies, Phu Quoc is attracting more investment in many areas, especially tourism property.

To date, Phu Quoc Island has attracted more than 220 tourism development projects, accounting for about 80 per cent of tourism projects in Kien Giang province with a total investment capital of over VND222 trillion. Among them, 170 projects have been granted investment certificates and about 30 tourism projects have come into operation. Typical investors include Vingroup, Sun Group, Bim Group, Seo Group, Thai Group and Hai Dang Group with many 5-star international hotels and resorts like Vinpearl, Novetel, Marriott, and You and We Resort or 4-star hotel systems such as Muong Thanh Hotel, Saigon-Rach Gia Hotel, and unique modern entertainment areas such as Vinpearl Land and Vinperal Safari.

Vice Chairman of Phu Quoc People's Committee Huynh Quang Hung affirmed that many strong international investors have invested in Phu Quoc, thus significantly changing the face of the Pearl Island and creating growth momentum for Phu Quoc tourism.

Apart from gigantic investment projects, many small and medium enterprises and business households have also invested in new tourism facilities and restored, changed and upgraded their existing tourism establishments in order to bring more different choices and experiences to visitors.

In addition, the infrastructure system on Phu Quoc Island is being properly cared and invested. The transportation systems are built synchronously across air, water and road modes. Public utilities such as public toilets and vending systems are also being widely deployed to bring a modern friendly environment to tourists.

Perhaps, with many incentive policies aimed to create a favourable business environment and actively draw investment flows, Phu Quoc is successfully appealing many tourism investors and significantly contributing to boosting the tourism industry.

Tourism breakthroughs
According to statistics from the Kien Giang Tourism Department, in 2016, Phu Quoc Island received more than 1.45 million tourists, 20 per cent higher than the yearly plan and nearly 63 per cent higher than in 2015. In particular, in the first five months of 2017, Phu Quoc welcomed nearly 858,000 visitors, 47 per cent higher than the plan and 21 per cent higher than the same period of 2016. International tourist arrivals reached 60 per cent of the full-year plan and jumped 30 per cent year on year.

Tran Chi, Director of the Kien Giang Tourism Department, said that, from now to 2020, the province will focus on building the image and brand of Phu Quoc tourism as a secure, friendly and civilised destination for domestic and international tourists and a high-quality ecological and leisure tourism centre of the country, the region and the world.

Accordingly, the province continues to call for tourism development investment projects, restored historical and cultural relics, scenic landscapes, cultural and sports facilities to impress visitors.

Besides, the province will further propose investment incentive policies, create a favourable and open tourism investment and business environment, proactively solicit big investors with strong financial capacity and extensive management experience. At the same time, Kien Giang will have policies to encourage small and medium enterprises and business households to invest in and upgrade tourism establishments, develop community-based tourism, handicraft villages and complementary services to improve service quality and diversify tourism products to meet increasing demands of tourists.

In 2017, Phu Quoc expects to serve 1.8 million tourists, 25 per cent higher than 2016. In particular, international visitors will account for 300,000, up nearly 43 per cent. Tourism revenue will reach over VND11 trillion, up 25 per cent year on year.

With huge potential and natural conditions for tourism development, plus many supporting policies and strategies, the advent of big investors, Phu Quoc will become a high-grade ecological tourism centre. In addition, this will be one of major tourist destinations in Vietnam and significantly help develop and uplift the position of Vietnamese tourism on regional and world maps.
