Short-day Travel in Upward Trend

Posted: Friday, August 25, 2017

Surveys on tour bookings at travel companies in Vietnam show that short-day travel is chosen most by families for National Independence Day holiday because of reasonable budgets and little impacts on their business and study. With stable tour prices, reservations are 15 per cent higher than a year ago.

Short-term tours – Favourite choice
This National Independence holiday lasts three days, just before the start of the new school year. Thus, many families spend time enjoying leisure before their busy working and study days.

Nguyen Kien Khanh (Vinh City, Nghe An Province) said, “With three days off, I have booked a 3-day tour to Sapa at a cost of VND2 million a person since early August. With cool climate and beautiful landscapes, this is a very suitable choice for my children to take a meaningful rest before starting a new school year.”
Up to this point, tour reservations at travel companies like Viettravel, Vietsense, Orient Pearl Travel, TST Tourist or online travel exchanges like Tripi, Booking and Traveloka rise nearly 15 per cent over the same period last year.

Typically chosen tours to the North include Trang An Bai Dinh Scenic Landscape Complex, Ha Long Bay, Moc Chau, Sa Pa and Ha Giang. Meanwhile, tourists from Ho Chi Minh City often opt for tours to Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Quy Nhon, Phan Thiet, Ca Mau and Phu Yen. In addition, some outbound tours, especially to Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia are also popular choices.

More tourists, stable tour prices
Ms Thai Thu Duong, Deputy General Director of Orient Pearl Travel Co., Ltd, said, in order to attract tourists during this holiday season, travel companies have launched dozens of new competitive products. Although holiday prices are often 5 -10 per cent higher than those of ordinary days, many travel companies offer attractive promotions to lure customers. Therefore, in general, prices are not an issue for tourists.

With flexible policies and cooperation for discounts and promotions to stimulate demands, many tour operators have launched a variety of options, especially 3-5 star hotel combo packages or free & easy packages. Many package tours are designed with very attractive prices such as Phu Yen (three days) for just about VND4.7 million, Ha Giang (three days) for VND2.5 million, Sa Pa (three days) for VND2.6 million, departing from Hanoi.

Mr Pham Tien Dung, Director of Goldentours, said that outbound tours are also affordable thanks to promotion and stimulus packages launched by tourism promotion agencies in cooperation with outbound Vietnamese companies. Some 4-5 day tours to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan have very flexible, attractive prices, ranging from VND7 million to VND16 million. In particular, companies have also introduced their own services to meet the diverse demand of tourists such as Hong Kong - Disneyland tour at a cost of VND16 million. If they want to go free shopping and not to go to Disneyland, they will have VND2 million reduced. Taiwan tours will be discounted VND700,000 for early birds.

With the good market sense and knowledge of tourists’ needs, travel companies are heating up the tourism market in Vietnam. According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), domestic tourist arrivals reached nearly 50 million in the first seven months. Total revenue was estimated at VND307 billion, up nearly 26 per cent from a year earlier.
