Connecting APEC SMEs

The APEC SME Ministerial Meeting Week 2017 is slated for from September 10 to 15, 2017 in Ho Chi Minh City, with the focus being the 24th APEC Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Ministerial Meeting held on September 15. Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will attend and deliver an opening speech to the meeting.

Themed “Enhancing MSME competitiveness and innovation in globalisation era”, this meeting is among the most important political and economic events for APEC businesses in general and Vietnamese businesses in particular. Attendants to the meeting will be leading corporations from the United States, China, Russia, Japan, South Korea and others. Within the framework of the meeting, apart from discussion sessions, it will also include a series of direct business meetings where Vietnamese and foreign companies can seek business and investment opportunities.

Mr Ho Sy Hung, General Director of Enterprise Development Department under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, said the meeting will have three sub-themes: (1) Facilitating market entry and deeper participation in global value chains; (2) Facilitating the business environment for MSMEs by facilitating access to technology, governance, capacity building training and business connectivity; and, (3) promoting APEC business spirit in the digital age.

The 24th APEC SME Ministerial Meeting is one of ministerial conferences of the APEC Vietnam 2017. And, the Ministry of Planning and Investment is the lead agency for this important APEC SME Ministerial Meeting.

The main contents of the 24th APEC SME Ministerial Meeting 2017 include the APEC Declaration on Promoting Business Start-up; the Strategy for Promoting green, sustainable and innovative SMEs; and Ministerial Report to the 2017 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting.
