Posted: Monday, October 09, 2017

Vietnam earned US$2.64 billion from exporting vegetables and fruits in the first nine months of 2017, up 44.2 per cent over the same period of 2016, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. China, Japan, the United States and South Korea were the four leading importers of Vietnamese vegetables and fruits, accounting for 85.2 per cent of the total value. Fast-growing importing markets included Japan (up 64.6 per cent), the United Arab Emirates (64.4 per cent) and China (60.2 per cent). Meanwhile, Vietnam spent US$135 million on foreign vegetables and fruits in September 2017, totalling US$1.15 billion in the first nine months, up 78.2 per cent year on year.

According to the ministry, fruit markets were volatile because of seasonal factors. Meanwhile, vegetable markets were affected by weather. Recent storms caused supply shrinkage, resulting in a sharp rise in prices in July and August.
