Vietnam Attracts US$28.24 Billion of FDI

The Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment said Vietnam attracted US$28.24 billion of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first 10 months of 2017, up 37.4 per cent year on year. Disbursed FDI was US$14.2 billion in the reviewed period, up 11.8 per cent year on year. Up to 112 countries and territories invested in Vietnam in the period, led by South Korea with US$7.62 billion or 27 per cent of total FDI value. Japan was the second biggest foreign investor with US$6.07 billion or 21.5 per cent, followed by Singapore with US$4.59 billion, or 16.3 per cent.

Foreign investors invested in 59 provinces and cities. Ho Chi Minh City was the biggest recipient of FDI capital with US$5.03 billion, or 17.8 per cent of total registered value, followed by Bac Ninh with US$3.19 billion, or 11.3 percent, Thanh Hoa with US$3.16 billion, or 11.2 per cent. Biggest FDI projects in the period include US$2.79-billion Nghi Son thermal power plant in Thanh Hoa province and US$2.5 billion Samsung Display Vietnam expansion project in Bac Ninh province.
