New Standard for Luxury Hospitality

Posted: Thursday, November 09, 2017

In developing Intercontinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, Sun Group has set a new benchmark for luxury tourism all around the globe.

Born to be awarded
Embedded in the mythical hills of the famous Son Tra Peninsula and surrounded by 37 hectares of beautiful landscape with a panoramic view of the East Sea, InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort is “where myth meets luxury” and the perfect choice for travellers seeking an experience that connects them to what is special about Danang and Vietnam.

The opulent resort is one of Asia's most talked about destinations. This truly iconic 197 bedroom luxury resort, designed by the renowned architect Bill Bensley, is also the first InterContinental Resort in Vietnam.

Since opening, the resort has scooped a host of prestigious awards and featured on numerous lists. In 2013, it was named as one of the best new hotels in the world on Conde Nast Traveller’s US Edition Hot List, and also named as part of World Spa and Travel’s Luxury 50. After three year in consecutive (2014, 2015 and 2016) holding the statue of World’s Leading Luxury Resort, in 2017, at the World Travel Awards gala ceremony in Shanghai on 4th June, it was awarded Asia's Leading Luxury Resort 2017, Vietnam's Leading Resort 2017, Asia's Leading Fine Dining Hotel Restaurant 2017: La Maison 1888 Restaurant, and Asia's Leading Luxury Hotel Villa 2017: Sun Peninsula Residence Villa.

The lap of luxury
It’s not hard to see why. At InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, visitors can admire a design language that has been inspired by Vietnamese landscapes and culture.

The interiors recall Vietnamese temples with hanging lanterns, ornately carved candle stands, and temple motifs featuring dragons, elephants, lions and lotus flowers. In all room categories you will find a wealth of indigenous Vietnamese patterns, such as wood-spindled temple windows and the silhouetted form of traditional Hoi An lanterns.

The designer Bill Bensley also took great delight from incorporating humble village details into the most luxurious of settings. For example, ceramic bricks from the traditional craft village of Bat Trang line the walls of the Club Peninsula Suite and surround the indulgent deep-soak tubs in the seaside pool villas on the rocks.

After a swim in the villa’s infinity pool, you can admire the dramatic East Sea panorama, or rinse off under shower heads fashioned from hill tribe baskets from the Central Highlands. Even the in-room minibars were inspired by the tiny drawer cabinets found at traditional Vietnamese apothecaries in Hanoi.

Of course, Bensley’s imagination does not end here. You will also find old French-period chairs, cast iron ostriches poised alongside marble bathtubs, even surfboard-shaped terrace tables drawn from Bensley’s own southern California roots – lest you forget you on a beach holiday.

More invaluable experiences are offered by La Maison 1888, voted amongst the Top 10 World's Best New Restaurants by CNN in 2016. This outstanding restaurant was designed to recreate an antique French mansion with each dining area offering up its own intimate niche reflecting a certain time period.
By closely cooperating with Bill Bensley, sometimes referred to as the ‘king of exotic luxury resorts’, and working with some of the world’s most celebrated chefs such as Michelin-star chef Pierre Gagnaire, Sun Group has elevated Vietnamese luxury tourism to unprecedented heights.

You should not miss the breath-taking architectural masterpiece of HARNN Heritage Spa, named The Best New Spa in 2015 at the World Spa Awards and “2017 Global Spa of the Year” at the World Luxury Spa Awards 2017, to enjoy a relaxing and revitalising Dong Y treatment on a warm bed made from Danang’s famous marble, long regarded for its therapeutic properties.

By infusing the design and services at InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort with traditional culture, and even spirituality, Sun Group has created a unique property if not a perfect mood, for this extraordinary resort. This is the reason why InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort has welcomed so many distinguished guests and VIPs and will continue to do so. This year, the resort will host APEC 2017, a huge honour for both the resort and the city of Danang with political leaders and delegations flying in from all over the world.
