Sao Mai Super Feed Factory - Giant Project Wakes up Vietnamese Catfish Aspirations

Posted: Monday, December 04, 2017

Sao Mai Group recently inaugurated and operated its new fish feed production facility, Sao Mai Super Feed. This event is considered a great breakthrough for the fishery sector in the Mekong Delta.

Sao Mai Super Feed is located in Vam Cong Industrial Complex invested by Sao Mai Group in Lap Vo district, Dong Thap province.

In the pangasius value chain, feeds account for 60 - 65 per cent of the total value. Thus, Sao Mai Group spent more than VND800 billion on investing in Sao Mai Super Feed, the largest fish feed producer in the country with a yearly production capacity of 360,000 tonnes. With seven production lines, the facility is furnished with advanced machinery and equipment imported from big European and US groups. Each production line can produce 12 tonnes per hour.

Sao Mai Group successfully implemented new Japanese 3H (Health - High Quality - High Technology) agricultural value chains. This is a general trend of modern agricultural production in the world that Sao Mai Group has caught in time. Sao Mai Super Feed has a competitive price for feeds free from antibiotics and other prohibited substances according to current regulations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The factory is a very important chain to form a self-contained pangasius value chain and help Sao Mai Group reach its target revenue of VND10 trillion a year ahead of schedule.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mr Tran Quang Tuyen, a pangasius farmer in O Mon district, Dong Thap province, represented hundreds of catfish farmers in Dong Thap and other provinces to thank Sao Mai Group for accompanying fishermen. The group has supported him and hundreds of fish farmers to have stable incomes for 10 years. He said the group still used contractual prices to buy pangasius even when market prices dropped. The launch of Sao Mai Super Feed proves a firm step and a long-term companionship of Sao Mai Group to pangasius farmers in the region to raise the value of Vietnam's pangasius in domestic and international markets, said Tuyen.

Mr Chau Hong Phuc, Vice Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee, emphasised, “The official inauguration of Sao Mai Super Feed helps the market with new competitive products and farmers and partners of the group will have a trusted companion on the way of development.”

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Le Thanh Thuan, President and CEO of Sao Mai Group, thanked fish farmers, banks, companies and leaders of Sao Mai Group. He affirmed that the launch of Sao Mai Super Feed is a right direction and an important turning point in the closed pangasius production process from the stage of culturing, processing and using up pangasius by-products to enhance the value chain towards sustainable development, provide stable employment for thousands of labourers, ensure social security and contribute to economic transition in the Mekong Delta.
