Could you tell us about the HCM City - Gyeongju World Culture Festival 2017?
2017 marked a milestone in the Vietnam- Korea relations as the two countries celebrate 25 years of diplomatic relations. During the past 25 years, Vietnam and Korea have gained great achievements in almost all fields of economy, culture, commerce, education, tourism, etc. To celebrate this great event, HCM City is honoured to host the HCM City - Gyeongju World Culture Festival 2017.

Gyeongju World Culture Festival is a large-scale cultural event organised by the Gyeongsangbuk-do Province every two years. The festival started in 1998, and it is organised by a two-year cycle in Korea and the next two years will be held overseas. In 2006, this festival was held in Angkor Wat, Siem Reap (Cambodia); in Istanbul in 2013 (Turkey) and in HCM City in 2017.

From 2016 until now, HCM City and Gyeongsangbuk-do have regularly exchanged delegations at all levels, demonstrating their strong commitment to successfully co-organise the HCM City - Gyeongju World Culture Festival 2017. In the festival, the co-hosting board and the subcommittees of the 42 members of each party have been introduced, in the presence of Mr Nguyen Thanh Phong, Chairman of the HCM City People's Committee and Mr Kim Kwan Yong, Gyeongsangbuk-do province governor. How has the HCM City - Gyeongju World Culture Festival 2017 contributed to developing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Korea?
Cultural exchange together with political diplomacy and economic diplomacy is one of the three main pillars of the Vietnam diplomacy in the process of Vietnam's integration into the international and regional areas. In the context of a well-developed Vietnam - Korea strategic partnership, the HCM City - Gyeongju World Culture Festival in 2017 contributes to deepening the understanding among the peoples in the two countries, contributing to building the "from heart to heart" relationship. Cultural exchanges also promote cooperation in areas such as investment, trade, education, tourism, etc.

This year's festival is really a "prolonged arm" in introducing the beauty of Vietnamese culture and people, the youthful and dynamic image of HCM City to the Korean people and international friends. We hope that Korean and international friends will feel a deep sense of a peaceful, stable and dynamic Vietnam with the people who are rich in humanity and hospitality. Conversely, through this festival, the people of Vietnam and HCM City will love the country and people of Korea more because they have the opportunity to know about the historic land with many cultural heritage, the rich cultural tradition of the ancient Shilla dynasty and the ancient city of Gyeongju - the oldest capital of Korea with over 1,000 years of history.

The festival is expected to contribute to the deepening of the Vietnam-Korea strategic cooperation partnership, thus promoting the cooperation between HCM City and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and other localities to a new height.
