Posted: Wednesday, December 13, 2017

On the occasion of a working visit by 180 Taiwanese enterprises to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), in collaboration with Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI), organised Vietnam – Taiwan ( China) Industrial Collaboration Forum, which attracted nearly 300 Vietnamese and Taiwanese enterprises working in the sectors of textile and materials, machineries, electricity, electronics, mechanicals, steel, chemicals, automation and smart manufacturing, food and financial services.

At the forum, Dr Vu Tien Loc, President of VCCI, said after 30 years of the renovation, Vietnam has gained beyond expected achievements in FDI. However, entering the Industrial Revolution 4.0, Vietnam needs a better generation of foreign investors who with higher added value. Particularly, Vietnam is in need of a progressive generation of FDI investors to effectively meet the demand of the digital economy and the trend of innovation. Meanwhile, Taiwan is the economy ranking 10th in innovation with good products, and qualified small and medium enterprises. “Over the last 30 years, Taiwan has always been among Vietnam’s significant economic partners. I hope that in the future, the two sides will jointly bring bilateral relations to a new high. Especially, Taiwan will take the lead in the second wave of investment into Vietnam,” said Dr Loc.

CNFI Chairman Hsu Sheng-hsiung said that along with the process of industrialisation, Taiwan has rapidly shifted from a manufacturing to a researching and developing industry, with high technology and high quality products. Rapid yet stable economic growth makes Taiwan one of the 4 “tigers of Asia” (together with Singapore, Korea and Hongkong-China); and proudly known as “an economic miracle”.

During the past years, Taiwanese enterprises have promoted investment into Vietnam. However, to become the leading investor of Vietnam, Taiwan needs to make more efforts and take more firm measures. Taiwan's New Southbound Policy seeks to promote investment into Southeast Asian countries, among which is Vietnam, which creates great opportunities for the two sides to improve economic linkages and promote development cooperation. The fruitful outcomes of this cooperation will be the foundation for a new relationship of mutual development, benefits and complement, added Mr Hsu Sheng-hsiung.

At the forum, Vietnamese and Taiwanese enterprises and agencies signed five cooperation agreements, notably VCCI and CNFI agreement, Institute of Appliance Technology (Ministry of Science and Technology) and the Centre of Researching and Developing Material Industry of Taiwan agreement on researching, developing and applying technology in industrial sector.

Under the framework of the forum, three sessions specialising in specific topics took place, attracting the attention of business circle from the two sides, including textile industries chain and Vietnam and Taiwan cooperation opportunities; opportunities for cooperation and technical transfer of light industry between Vietnam and Taiwan; new development and opportunities for smart lightning and smart school. Most Taiwanese enterprises attending the forum expressed their wish to closely connect with Vietnamese enterprises to give technical support for development; towards building Vietnam-Taiwan linkages in such potential sectors as light industry, textiles and smart city.
