ACCA Seminar Brings Ethics to Life in Support of Ethics and Professional Skill Module Launch

Posted: Saturday, April 14, 2018

ACCA seminar promoted the importance of ethics to more than 1000 members & Professions in Finance and Accounting.

With the objective of creating greater awareness of professionalism and ethics in accountancy and business; as well as to demonstrate that the ACCA Qualification leads the profession in championing ethics, the ACCA Ethics seminar was conceptualised as a refreshing way to lead up to the launch of the Ethics and Professional Skills module (EPSM).

The seminar screened Unraveled film. The movie was followed by discussions post-screening as well as professional development seminars to help the sector reflect and internalise the lessons.

Participants of the seminar shared that the event was interesting as this was the first time a professional body is using films to promote a cause.

The new Ethics and Professional Skills module went live from 31 October 2017, replacing the Professional Ethics module which was available until 30 October 2017.

The redesigned module focuses on developing vitally important ethical behaviour and judgement to ensure finance professionals are equipped with the skills needed to support exam success at Strategic Professional level.

Ms. Chau Nguyen, Head of Mekong, ACCA, said ‘The new Ethics and Professional Skills module ensures that ethics still has its place at the heart of our qualification. Through developing and demonstrating a high standard of ethical and professional behaviours alongside the strategic and technical expertise acquired through passing the ACCA exams, ACCA professional accountants will be able to make an immediate impact in their workplace.’

The Ethics and Professional Skills module develops skills in leadership, negotiation, conflict management, thinking commercially and scepticism development integrated with realistic business situations to improve employability and career success.

ACCA was the first to introduce a compulsory ethics module in 2007. The new module revisions ensure all members have the broader ethics, communication, commercial, innovation, analysis and evaluation skills core to membership and essential for shaping the future of business.
