Posted: Tuesday, April 24, 2018

The 28th Global Summit of Women (GSW 28), themed “Women: Creating Economies of Shared Value”, is scheduled to take place in Sydney, Australia from April 26 to 28.

Vietnamese Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh will attend the summit together with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Former Kosovar President Atifete Jahjaga. Ms Thinh will be convoyed by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education and Training as well as representatives from the Vietnam Women’s Confederation, the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council under VCCI and many entrepreneurs.

The Global Summit of Women was conceived as the nexus at which all sectors - public, private and non-profit - would come together under the common vision of dramatically expanding women’s economic opportunities globally through exchanges of working solutions and creative strategies forged by women leaders in different parts of the world. It is a business summit whose business focus is women’s advancement in the global economy. For more than 27 years, GSW has connected women around the world.

Messages from GSW 28 are: To bridge the gap between economic growth and social inclusion; to open up global market for women’s enterprises of all sizes; to secure alternative energy sources for future growth; ensure women’s access to technology and STEM education; preserve and protect increasingly limited natural resources; and to create companies of shared leadership. Important events at GSW 28 include Ministerial Roundtable: Public - Private Sector Partnerships Advancing Economic Opportunities for Women and Girls; Forum: Doing Business with Australia; Mayor’s Forum; Megatrends: Globalization versus Populism; Why Millennials Are Critical to 21st Century Economies; Women Entrepreneurs’ Forum; Male CEO Forum: Engaging Middle Management on Gender Diversity; Youth Forum: Creating Businesses that Transform Society.

Issues to be developed and tracked consist of: Business Development and Fourth Industrial Revolution; Branding or Redefining Business; and Employment Preparation for the 21st Century.

Joining the 27th Global Summit of Women in May 2017 in Tokyo (Japan), the Vietnamese delegation of 50 female business leaders and officials from ministries actively participated in discussions, provided information on Vietnam's experience in promoting women’s roles in all aspects of economic, political, cultural and social life. Efforts to ensure the progress of women in Vietnam are highly valued by international friends. Vietnam is ranked among top five countries in the Asia-Pacific region by the proportion of women leaders and business leaders.
