Vietnam Welcomes 6.7 Million Int’l Tourists in Jan-May

The General Statistics Office (GSO) said the number of international tourist arrivals to Vietnam was estimated at 6.7 million in the year to end-May, up 27.6 per cent year on year. Of the sum, airborne arrivals were 5.38 million, an increase of 23.5 per cent year on year; overland arrivals were 1.17 million, up 59.9 per cent; and seaborne arrivals reached 157,600, down 6.1 per cent.

Asian tourists accounted for 5.1 million in the period, representing a year on year growth of 33.3 per cent. Tourists from China rose by 37 per cent, from South Korea by 62.1 per cent, Japan by 6.6 per cent, Malaysia by 12.5 per cent, and Thailand by 9.1 per cent.

Many important tourist destinations saw an impressive growth in foreign tourist arrivals. In the first five months of 2018, Da Nang City welcomed over 3.2 million foreign visitors, an increase of 30.4 per cent over the same period of 2017. Khanh Hoa province saw over 2.44 million tourists, up by 20.75 per cent.
