Upholding Strengths of Women Entrepreneurs in Exercising Social Responsibility

Posted: Monday, June 04, 2018

In addition to innovating in business by adopting new science and technology, Vietnamese women entrepreneurs have always promoted their leading role in exercising social responsibility with green production models, humanitarian business for interests and safety of consumers as well as active participation in community activities.

This is one of main contents of the 21st Century Women Entrepreneurs Forum: Creativity and Humanity. The event was recently held in Hanoi by the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council under the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and attended by nearly 300 domestic and international delegates. The forum also helped orientate and build a force of Vietnamese women entrepreneurs capable of integrating successfully in the digital era.

Speaking at the forum, Vietnamese Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh hailed efforts of Vietnamese women entrepreneurs in the past many years and, at the same time, affirmed that the Party and State highly appreciate valuable contribution of the business community, including female entrepreneurs, to the cause of national development.

Affirming that the importance of business ethics as it is the investment for the future and enterprises cannot be separated from its relations with the social community, Vice President Thinh hoped women entrepreneurs should participate in many more social and voluntary activities; build complementary relations for joint progress and competition for joint development; and organise more effective connections between domestic and international women entrepreneurs communities to help Vietnamese women entrepreneurs to integrate better into the world.

Vice President Thinh suggested that women entrepreneurs should constantly learn and improve their knowledge and skills in approaching, acquiring, accessing, applying and investing in technological innovations in production and business management in order to increase the performance of their companies, help build a green sustainable economy covering all three pillars of technology environment and progress in social justice.

Regarding roles of women entrepreneurs in the digital age, she said that in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Vietnamese businesses in general and women entrepreneurs in particular face many challenges in market, human resources, legal environment, corporate governance, security and confidentiality to adapt to the digital economy. The forum is a practical, meaningful activity with contents relating topics covered by the Global Summit of Women.

Sharing this view, VCCI President Vu Tien Loc said that, given the fierce competition, the boom of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the shared economy based on trust and technology, building the business brand and the identity of business owner is an objective requirement that ensures the success of the business.

Confirming that women entrepreneurs are always an important motive for the socio-economic development of the country, he believed that, with their kindness and tolerance, they will actively contribute to the overall economic development with their innovative and humanitarian business.

Dr Loc said the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council has increasingly promoted its role as a national agency representing the Vietnamese women-led business community, becoming the common home of Vietnamese women entrepreneurs across the country. Supports for women entrepreneurs are increasingly developed in both quantity and quality, both domestically and internationally and highly appreciated by the business community and partner organisations.

"Women entrepreneurs may find it hard to to compete by scale but they can compete successfully with humanity, social responsibility and sustainable development," Ms Nguyen Thi Tuyet Minh, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council said to the forum.

Also at the forum, delegates discussed innovations to change production models and methods integrated with green, clean and friendly environment criteria. They said that investment in green technologies and processes in all sectors of agriculture, industry, commerce and services is not easy to get done because of high demands for investment value, machinery, technology, personnel and operating levels. Nevertheless, this is an indispensable requirement to improve the corporate competitiveness and bring about economic and environmental benefits and to lead businesses, women entrepreneurs and the whole economy as well towards sustainability. Today, many women entrepreneurs have been at the forefront of innovation, pioneering investment and participation in high-tech production and green production towards sustainable development and global economic integration. Remarkable names include TH Group, IPPG and Hien Le Co., Ltd.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council (VWEC) held a ceremony to announce Top 10 Outstanding ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs in 2018 and presented gifts in kind to the Vietnam Children Support Fund in a warm and cosy atmosphere. The exhibition space for women-made products next to the forum also provided a chance for women entrepreneurs nationwide to exchange, establish business cooperation, introduce products and boost trade promotion.
