Vietnam Attracts US$9.9 Billion of FDI

Vietnam attracted an additional US$9.9 billion of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first five months of 2018, equal to 81.6 per cent of the same period of 2017, according to a report by the Ministry of Planning and Investment. Specifically, the country drew 1,076 new FDI projects with a total registered capital of US$4.66 billion as of May 20, 2018, equal to 83.2 per cent from a year earlier. In addition, 393 existing projects registered to add US$2.49 billion to their capital base, equivalent to 52.6 per cent of the value in the same period of 2017.

According to the ministry, fresh and additional FDI value dropped on a few of sizeable projects. Statistics showed that projects with US$100 million or more accounted for 63 per cent of registered investment value while the rate was just 32.4 per cent a year earlier.
