GDT to Name 1,000 Top Taxpayers in Vietnam

Posted: Thursday, July 26, 2018

The General Department of Taxation (GDT) will name 1,000 biggest corporate taxpayers in Vietnam in 2017. Candidates are companies established under the law of Vietnam, foreign enterprises, and other entities with income-generating business operations. In cases they have branches or dependent units, the amount of corporate income tax counted for them include the amount paid by their head offices and the amount paid by their branches and affiliated units. As for holding corporations, the parent company and each of its subsidiary and member companies will be separate entries on the rankings.

The corporate income tax value will be calculated from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017. It will also include remaining taxes of previous years. The provisional tax value may be greater than the officially settled value. If the tax value is primarily taken from tax debts in previous years, they will be considered for being excluded from the list.

With the above-mentioned criteria, the General Department of Taxation integrated data collected from the centralised tax management system and worked with tax departments to make a list of candidates. As a result, 297 companies were crossed off the list a corresponding number of companies were added to the 1,000-strong list in 2017.

To timely commend outperforming taxpayers in two consecutive years, tax authorities asked the Ministry of Finance to assign the General Department of Taxation to hold an event to praise Top 100 taxpayers in the Top 1,000 taxpayer list with the largest tax value in two straight years. The ceremony of announcing the Top 1,000 taxpayers in 2017 is scheduled to take place on August 3, 2018.
