CPI in August up 0.45 Pct

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in August 2018 rose 0.45 per cent against the previous month and witnessed a year-on-year increase of 3.98 per cent, according to the General Statistics Office.

The CPI over the recent eight months of the year picked up 3.52 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Ten out of the 11 commodities in the calculation basket witnessed increases in prices, including restaurants and food services (0.87 per cent), education (0.46 per cent), housing and building materials (0.44 per cent), culture, entertainment and tourism (0.19 per cent), transport (0.13 per cent), beverage and tobacco (0.11 per cent), garments, hats and footwear (0.1 per cent), equipments and household commodities (0.1 per cent).

The prices of other groups, including medicines and health service, goods and other services also saw respective increases of 0.02 per cent and 0.13 per cent.

Only the price of telecommunications decreased by 0,07 per cent.

The core inflation in August 2018 rose 0.22 per cent in comparison with the previous month and up 1.54 per cent against the same period last year. The average core inflation over the recent eight months witnessed a year-on-year increase of 1.38 per cent.
