In April 2011, Saigon Fisheries Joint Stock Company (SG FISCO) was officially renamed Saigon Food Joint Stock Company with the purpose of utilising local advantages, exploiting and developing the domestic market for a more comprehensive development. After eight years of construction and development, Saigon Food has quickly become a trusted companion for families on account of its variety of diverse and convenient products for both domestic and international markets.
Before changing its name, Saigon Food had been a very familiar and close brand to Vietnamese housewives as it has the widest range of processed seafood for the domestic market. The company has researched new products to create different options from its competitors and robustly enhanced its market reputation by applying international quality management standards to its production process. The firm has completed production management systems according to strict standards of food processing industry, including ISO9001-2000, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), British Retail Consortium (BRC), Kaizen and 5S (Sort, Set-in-Order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain).
To date, Saigon Food is the first frozen seafood processor to make landslide breakthroughs in taste and product categories on the domestic market when it launched frozen hot-pot dish integrated with separate spice packet. In fact, all products of the company include distinctive spice packets. For the time being, the company is most famous for its seven types of hot-pot dishes: Thai hot-pot, sauce hot-pot, seafood hot-pot, salmon hot-pot, kimchi hot-pot, crab soup hot-pot, and vegetarian Thai hot-pot. Its well known products also include five-colour seafood, eel sausage and minced fish. Saigon Food has up to 40 products on the market. It has also successfully conquered demanding markets such as Japan and the European Union (EU). Each year, it ships more than 4,000 tonnes of frozen seafood products to foreign markets.
With this renaming, Saigon Food expects to attain a comprehensive development, from major frozen seafood, pork, beef, chicken and vegetables to instant, packaged and canned foods stored in room temperature. Product diversification is a chance for Saigon Food to expand its domestic distribution and retail networks.
General Director Nguyen Van Hoa said: "Renaming in a volatile market is a tough decision but this will open up both opportunities and challenges for us to attest the position of Saigon Food on both domestic and international markets. With a sound orientation and powerful capacity, the experienced management of Saigon Food together with its dynamic, creative and enthusiastic employees is highly confident to expand the presence on the domestic market and boost export sales to Japan and the EU.”
Together with the launch of the new trademark, Saigon Food has also completed its development strategy for the period from now to 2020. Specifically, between now and 2015, the company will focus on building a food processing plant with an annual capacity of 2,000 tonnes to manufacture foods for mothers, children, the elderly and daily foods. Besides, the firm will construct its supply chain by cooperating with vegetable growers, livestock farmers, fishermen and simple-processing facilities to ensure the input supply for its food factory. From 2016 to 2020, Saigon Food will build a food processing plant with a yearly capacity of 2,000 tonnes, farming zones and simple-processing facilities to have its own input supply. It will also need to set up a forwarding company to distribute its products as well as build Saigon Food restaurant chain to meet a diverse demand of customers.
