FDI Disbursement Hits Record High

Vietnam licensed 3,094 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total registered value of over US$12.8 billion in the year to October 20, up 25.9 in projects but down 14.6% in value from a year-ago period, said the General Statistics Office (GSO).

Besides, the country allowed 1,145 existing projects to add their investment value by US$5.4 billion in the period, down 16.4% from the same period last year.
In total, the FDI value reached over US$18.3 billion in the first 10 months of 2019, down 15.2% year on year.
Disbursed FDI value was estimated at US$16.2 billion in 10 months, 7.4% higher than a year-ago period. The disbursed value hit a multiple year high, specifically US$11.8 billion in 2015, US$12.7 billion in 2016, US$14.2 billion in 2017; US$15.1 billion in 2018 and US$16.2 billion in 2019.
From January to October 2019, foreign investors completed 7,509 equity deals and transactions worth US$10.8 billion, up 70.5% year on year. Of the sum, 1,673 deals worth over US$6.5 billion resulted in the increase in registered capital of purchased companies, and 5,836 deals worth nearly US$4.3 billion did not increase the registered capital of purchased companies.
The processing and manufacturing industry received 71.2% of FDI, or US$9.1 billion, followed by the real estate sector with over US$1.2 billion (10%) and other industries with over US$2.4 billion (18.8%).
If the fund added to existing projects was included, the manufacturing and processing sector drew investment of over US$13.8 billion in the 10-month period (accounting for 75.8% of the total registered capital), followed by the real estate sector with more than US$1.2 billion (6.7%) and other sectors with over US$3.19 billion (17.5%).
South Korea was the largest investor with over US$2.7 billion, accounting for 21.5% of total fresh capital, followed by China with more than US$2.1 billion (16.5%) and Singapore with more than US$1.8 billion (14.3%).
Vietnam invested in 128 projects overseas with US$311.9 million in the first 10 months and increased US$100 million for 28 projects, totaling US$411.9 million.
