The ASEAN Business Awards 2020 (ABA 2020) was officially announced to honor the best companies in Southeast Asia and those with important contributions to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic throughout the ASEAN region.

This is also the second time Vietnam hosts this event and Madame Nguyen Thi Nga, member of ASEAN BAC Vietnam, is the chair of the ABA Award. Previously, in 2010, she also served as the chair of the award, which contributed significantly to the growth and reputation of this trophy.

At the dialogue session between the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN BAC) and ASEAN state leaders within the framework of the 36th ASEAN Summit, she reported to Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and ASEAN country leaders that ABA 2020 will honor ASEAN businesses who have made outstanding contributions to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and overcome the negative impacts of the disease on economic life in ASEAN.

Organized annually, the ABA Award is an opportunity for all ASEAN businesses to be honored for demonstrating an important position in the ASEAN economy. This is also an opportunity for the world business community to better understand the solidarity and strength of ASEAN businesses, thus promoting trade, investment and economic integration.

Speaking of the importance of the ABA Award to ASEAN BAC and Vietnam’s ASEAN Chairmanship Year, Dr. Doan Duy Khuong, Chair of ASEAN BAC 2020, said that the ABA Award always has great significance to ASEAN BAC in particular and ASEAN in general. At the ABA 2020, the meaning of this award is even more special when, more than ever, ASEAN businesses need to unite to not only overcome difficulties but also capture opportunities to open the era after the disease.

Aiming to build a prestigious award and to raise international status for the ASEAN business community, Deloitte Vietnam Co., Ltd. has been selected as a strategic partner to accompany this award. With experience and capacity of a World Big Four in auditing and consulting and a region-wide business network, Deloitte Vietnam will deliver publicity, fairness and transparency to the ABA Award 2020.

In addition, other prestigious international organizations have also been chosen as partners to some categories of ABA 2020, such as the Skills Development Award which will be developed by German GIZ (Agency for German Corporation for International Cooperation).

The ABA 2020 Award is divided into nine categories built on the inheritance and refinement of previous ABA Awards and built from the development of categories that match current regional social and economic situations, including Priority Integration Sectors, SME Excellence, Young Entrepreneur, Women Entrepreneur, Family Business, Skills Development, Friends of ASEAN, Inclusive Business and Combating Covid-19.

ABA 2020 will start to receive entries at the beginning of August 2020 till the end of September 2020. Then, the Organizing Committee will give scores and invite the jury (consisting of experts, scholars and leading economists representing ASEAN countries) to discuss and make a final decision on winners. The ABA Award Ceremony is scheduled for November 2020 in Hanoi as a side event to the 37th ASEAN Summit, to be attended by country leaders of Vietnam and other ASEAN countries.
