Vietnam has become the 10th largest export market of South Korea, jumping three steps higher compared to a year earlier, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (Kotra) reported August 16.

South Korea exported US$4.5 billion worth of goods to Vietnam in the first half of this year, up 78 per cent on-year, said the agency.

Petroleum products of US$1.4 billion topped the list of the country’s exports during the period, accounting for 30 per cent of the total, followed by automobile exports with US$380 million, or 8.4 per cent, textiles and steel plate with US$270 million or 6 per cent each.

During the time, the foreign country spent only US$1 billion on importing goods with staples of crude oil, footwear and food stuff from Vietnam, marking a big trade surplus of US$3.5 billion with the Southeast Asian country, said the Kotra.

It is estimated that bilateral trade between Vietnam and South Korea will surpass US$10 billion this year, said the agency. (Vietnam & World Economy, VNA)
