Vietnam’s total coffee export volume may decrease by 18.6 per cent against 2007 to only one million tons this year, the Vietnam Cocoa and Coffee Association (Vicofa) said.

The export is estimated to bring in US$2.2 billion, up 7.2 per cent on year, thanks to high coffee prices middle of 2008.

Vietnam coffee sector set target to gain annual growth of 4.9 per cent by exporting between 900,000 and 1.1 million tons of coffee at US$2,000 a ton on average.

The sector determined not to expand coffee area next year because of possible falling export prices, but set plan to raise coffee export quality. (Vietnam & World Economy)
