The Federation of Cambodian Rice Miller Associations (FCRMA) has forecast that rice exports by Cambodia will witness a tenfold rise to 200,000 tons from current 20,000 tons this year and become an emerging rival of Thailand and Vietnam, Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance said.

Phou Puy, director of FCRMA said that FCRMA has bought 300,000 tons of rice recently from local farmers. FCRMA has borrowed US$12 million from Cambodia’s agricultural bank and it will buy rice from Cambodian farmers with higher prices, he said.

Phou Puy noted that FCRMA will focus on markets in Brunei, Arab Saudi, Malaysia, Germany.

Currently, FCRMA offers US$200/ton to local farmers. (mof.gov.vn)
