Vietnam Rice Export Revenue Down 5.8% in Jan-Nov
Vietnam is estimated to have raked in US$2.555 billion from shipping 5.748 million tons of rice in the first eleven months of 2009, down 5.8% in value despite a sharp increase of 33.5% in volume against the same period of last year.
In Nov, the country exported 400,000 tons worth US$165 million, up from 363,000 tons valued at US$144 million a month earlier, the General Statistics Office said.
The country targets to export 6 million-6.2 million tons of rice by the year’s end.
Rice prices are surging in Vietnam’s granary, Mekong Delta region as local companies boost rice purchase for export. In An Giang, Kien Giang and Dong Thap, unhusked rice is offered at VND5,800/kg while husked rice is selling for VND7,500/kg. (GSO, Youth)
