Vietnam Tourism Industry to Focus on Domestic Market This Year
Vietnam’s hospitality industry will focus on the local market this year, considering it the key to the future development, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh said at a meeting on Jan 28.
The “Impressive Vietnam” tourism stimulus campaign had closed successfully and contributed to preventing the decline of foreign visitors to Vietnam and warming up the domestic market. The campaign will be extended to pave the way for a recovery of the downturn-hit tourism industry this year, the Vietnam News Agency said Jan 28, citing Tuan.
This year Vietnam will hold many events of great significance, including the Millennium Thang Long-Hanoi Festival, which will be opportunities for the industry to attract more foreign visitors.
Last year, the tourism industry welcomed 25 million local travelers, a 20% increase compared to previous years.
The ministry will also increase efforts to promote the image of Vietnam to foreign markets.
In January, Vietnam welcomed 416,249 international visitors, up 20.4% from a year earlier.
The country aims to greet between 4.2 million and 4.5 million international tourists and from 27 million to 28 million domestic tourists in 2010. (
