Vietnam Food Firm to Export 6,500 Tons of Rice to Malaysia, Philippines
Tra Vinh Food Company will export 6,500 tons of rice to the Philippines and Malaysia, according to the company director Le Van Viet.
The Vietnam Southern Food Corporation (Vinafood 2) asked Tra Vinh Food Co. to buy, process and export 150,000 tons of rice in 2010, of which 90,000 tons from winter-spring crop and 60,000 tons from summer-autumn crop, Viet said.
Tra Vinh province produces one million tons of unprocessed rice yearly, with 400,000 tons are for export.
The Vietnam Food Association (VFA) estimated that in 2010 Vietnam can export 6.9 million tons of rice, of which three million tons comes from the winter-spring crop, two million tons from the summer-autumn crop and 1.9 million tons from 2009.
Vietnam’s food companies have signed deals to export 2.38 million tons of rice so far this year, and they will ship 1.47 million tons in the first quarter.
Vietnam food firms won the third bid in Dec last year to deliver 586,000 tons of rice to the Philippines between March and June.
In Jan 2010, Vietnam exported 338,000 tons of rice with the average price of US$457 per ton, US$46 higher than in 2009.
In 2009, Vietnam shipped a record volume of 6.006 million tons of rice. (VNA)
