Vietnam Seafood Firms Pin Hope on UAE Market
Vietnamese seafood firms have great opportunities to boost sales to the United Emirates of Arab Saudi (UAE) thanks to soaring demand here, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) said.
The association cited the Vietnam General Department of Customs as saying that UAE imported more than 9,100 tons of seafood worth nearly $21.5 million from Vietnam between Jan and July, up 41.6% and 36.3% on-year, respectively.
Of the volume, more than 8,622 tons were tra fish.
The period’s imported volume is big in comparison with several years ago, the association said.
In 2008, UAE imported 10,800 tons of seafood from Vietnam, rising from 9,700 tons in 2007, 4,500 tons in 2006, and 1,200 tons in 2005.
Vietnamese firms should consider UAE as a potential market to penetrate because import tax on seafood to the country is exempted, the association added
Currently, 68 Vietnamese firms are exporting seafood to UAE. (Vasep)
