Vietnam Forecast to Import 300,000 Tons of Sugar in 2011
Vietnam will have to import 300,000 tons of sugar in 2011 as refineries are forecast to continue failing to meet domestic demand, said the Vietnam Sugar and Cane Association.
The association forecast that local sugar refineries will produce around 900,000 tons in the 2010-2011 crop, equal to the previous crop’s output.
Vietnamese firms imported 165,000 tons of sugar by late July, out of the whole year’s import quota of 300,000 tons, to ease sugar shortages in the domestic market. (Youth)
