Bao An Pagoda Proposed to Be Rated National Monument
On May 31, 2011, a scientific conference on Bao An Pagoda was held in Duong Quang commune, Gia Lam district, Hanoi by the Hanoi Relic and Scenic Management Board in collaboration with the Gia Lam district.
More than 10 research reports all affirmed that Bao An Pagoda, also known as Sieu Loai Pagoda, was the Buddhist centre during the Tran Dynasty, which was considered the ancestor place of Truc Lam Yen Tu Buddhist Sect founded by King Tran Nhan Tong.
The original pagoda had fallen down while the existing one is small, incommensurate with its cultural and historical values. Thus scientists supported the repairing and restoration of Bao An Pagoda to make it an attractive tourist destination.
At the conference, scientists also proposed Bao An Pagoda rated a national historical monument.
