Vietnam Launches Statistics Website

Vietnam’s General Statistics Office (GSO) officially inaugurated its website at http://www.gso.gov.vn on October 26 in Hanoi. On the occasion, the GSO also launched a statistics database centre, which was approved for establishment on June 22, 2004. The centre will operate independent of the GSO in terms of finance and is responsible for collecting, archiving and managing statistical data which has been publicly announced. It will manage the provision of information to users requesting it.

GSO’s website will be a unique service in Vietnam focusing on the provision of statistics. Information uploaded on the website is drawn from the information departments of ministries and government bodies, from statistics offices in 64 cities and provinces nation-wide and from official news agencies. So far, the website has 21 sections covering 40 fields and nearly 5,000 pages of information in Vietnamese and English, offering a very useful and accurate information source for both enterprises operating in the country and abroad.
