According to Ngo Thanh Nhon, Deputy Director of the Centre for Investment, Trade & Tourism Promotion of the City, compared with the previous days, the investment promotion orientation of Can Tho City has changed significantly, but still sticking the socio-economic development plans of the city and in accordance with the planning and orientation of the Government on investment. Investment promotion activities of Can Tho City were renovated towards professional ways, concerning the needs of investors, defining key sectors and areas and, strategic investors and dynamic projects; from that the City will work directly with each investor to introduce specific projects consistent with the development orientation of the city and the interests of investors.
About orientation in sectors and areas, the City focuses promotion on areas with competitive advantage in the TPP, particularly in the fields of agriculture and trade services. In which, the city focuses on selection of quality projects with high added value, using modern technology, environmentally friendly, especially in the field of information technology and biotechnology for agriculture, development of infrastructure, high-quality human resource training, research and development, modern services. The city also focuses on promoting projects in the fields of infrastructure, agriculture, manufacturing, industrial support.
About investment promotion partners orientation, for the Japanese counterpart, the City focuses on small and medium enterprises; the promotion of seafood and agro-processing sectors, high-tech agricultural parks, infrastructure, transportation, agricultural machinery, electronics, information technology, industrial environment and energy conservation. For Korean partners, the City focuses on the areas of electronics, mechanical manufacturing, agricultural machinery, energy, heavy industry and industrial equipment, information technology, high-tech agricultural zones, seafood and agro-processing. Besides the two leading partners Japan and South Korea, Can Tho City also focuses on promoting domestic investors, mainly large enterprises and corporations with huge resources and experience to implement investment projects.
Continue to innovate promotion methods
In the future, to continue to improve the quality and efficiency of investment promotion, and professionalize all activities associated with the practical interests of the business community and investors, Can Tho City will focus on building effective investment promotion channels, utilizing diplomatic channels to call for foreign investors; using the Internet to promote the projects calling for investment; using cooperative relationships with the provinces, the IPs to call for investment; simultaneously taking advantage of the existing investors as an effective promotion channel for foreign investors. The city continues to innovate methods of investment promotion, focusing on promoting investment in projects and key partners, building plans, mechanisms to access and mobilize private big companies and corporations with high-tech and financial ability. Also the City maintains regular dialogue with investors; promotes the reform of administrative procedures, performing administrative settlement procedures under the "one stop shop" and "electronic one-stop shop".
One more important issue is that the Centre for Investment, Trade & Tourism Promotion will study and propose the establishment of the Japan Desk and the Korea Desk in Can Tho City, to assist the City authority in improving investment environment and promoting capacity building, attracting investors from Japan and Korea. Mr Nhon stressed: "The promotion of the establishment of Japan Desk and Korea Desk will be very important to the investment promotion, improving investment environment and creating favourable conditions for investors in Japan, South Korea during operation, while promoting the dynamic and prosperous image of Can Tho City to the Japanese and Korean business communities."
