This is the request by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at a recent working meeting with the Ministry of Planning and Investment. The PM praised the role of the ministry in consulting the Party and Government on measures on socioeconomic development and reminded it of new, tougher tasks in the new context.

PM Phuc requested the Ministry of Planning and Investment to take the lead in preventing and fighting against corruption, proposing growth models as special economic zone and cargo transit centre and promoting entrepreneurship. He requested all ministries and agencies to propose solutions for the actual achievement of GDP growth of 6.7 per cent this year.

He added that, in 2016, Vietnam has to face difficulties and challenges, especially drought and seawater intrusion which are forecast to decrease national economic growth, low oil prices, business development, and budget deficit. The PM asked the ministry to discuss measures to follow the situations to take fast and prompt responses and ensure growth.

Regarding specific measures, PM Phuc told the Ministry of Planning and Investment to have solutions to create resources for development investment, not only for foreign borrowing and bond issue but also for control of public investment.

He also asked the Ministry of Planning and Investment to have programmes and projects to immediately remove policy barriers to economic growth, adding that the ministry needs to have support mechanisms to facilitate businesses to develop and stabilise macro economy.
