Vietnam Jan-Sep Cement Sales Up 6% on Year
Cement producers in Vietnam reported total sales of an estimated 59.3 million metric tons in the first nine months of this year, up 6% from a year earlier and meeting 74% of the target set for the entire year, the Vietnamese government said Wednesday.
Of the total, domestic sales were 45.3 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 4%, the government said in a statement. Vietnam Cement Industry Corp. accounted for 41.7% of the total domestic sales.
Vietnam’s cement exports in the January-September period were estimated at 14 million tons, the government said. The country currently targets to export 14 million-15 million tons of cement a year. It said local cement producers have managed to boost their exports in the nine-month period, despite competition from Thai and Chinese producers.
In September alone, domestic cement sales totaled 5.2 million tons, flat from the same month last year and slightly higher than in August.
