Vietnam, Guinea Bissau Promoting Trade Cooperation
Recently, Dr Doan Duy Khuong, Vice President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), met with Mr Vicente Fernandes, Minister of Commerce, Tourism and Handicrafts of the Republic of Guinea Bissau.
The visit of Minister Vincente Fernandes is of great importance in initiating Guinea Bissau's long-term strategic partnership for cashew cultivation and export, demonstrating the country's special interest in supporting farmers to find a stable, reliable outlet for one of Guinea Bissau's key agricultural products.
At the meeting, Minister Vicente Fernandes said that Guinea Bissau and Vietnam have many similarities as they are both agriculture-based countries. Guinea Bissau has a relatively high demand for rice, while Vietnam is the world's top rice exporter. Vietnam has a need to import raw cashew nuts, while Guinea Bissau is a large exporter of this product. Therefore, there is huge room for the two countries' agricultural cooperation. In the framework of the working visit in Vietnam, the trade cooperation between the Government of Guinea Bissau and Vietnam's T&T Group marked the new development in the bilateral cooperation.
Dr Doan Duy Khuong proposed the establishment of a joint working group on cashew nuts import-export and on two-way trade between Vietnam and Guinea Bissau. At the meeting, Hapro Corporation expressed interest in the Guinea Bissau market and wished to cooperate in exchanging bilateral trade on rice export and import of cashew nuts. In addition, several other companies cooperating with Guinea Bissau importers of cashew nuts shared their concerns when signing a partnership with Guinea Bissau. Minister Vicente Fernandes, representing the Guinea Bissau Government and the Guinea Bissau Chamber of Commerce, shared his commitment to assist Vietnamese enterprises doing business with Guinea Bissau.
Apart from agriculture, there are also opportunities for the two sides to cooperate in other fields such as infrastructure development, seaports and human resources training. Minister Vicente Fernandes emphasised the importance and strength of T&T Group and the attention of the Government and Vietnamese businesses, believing that, with the experience of T&T Group in the areas of finance - banking, investment, insurance, import - export, the cooperation between the two parties will surely succeed and achieve many results.
