Aspired to “Promote the Vietnamese fish”, Viet Uc Seafood Corporation has continuously invested in technology and personnel to increase the added value and sustain the development of the pangasius industry of Vietnam in general and of An Giang province in particular.
Following the success from the application of cutting-edge technologies in the shrimp industry, Viet Uc Seafood Corporation launched a high-tech pangasius breeding production zone in Vinh Hoa Islet, Vinh Buong village, Vinh Hoa commune, Tan Chau town, An Giang province. The firm is pioneering to apply advanced technology to pangasius broodstock research to produce pangasius fingerlings to join forces with An Giang province to develop pangasius farming to ensure the quality and supply of good breeds for the Mekong Delta market.
Pangasius is a key product of the fishery industry, only behind shrimp. In recent years, the pangasius output is unstable, causing great hardships for exporters. To solve this issue, stabilizing input pangasius is urgent and breeding is particularly important. This is the reason why Viet Uc Seafood Corporation is determined to invest in the pangasius breeding in An Giang province. With a 104-ha farming area, the corporation desires to produce 1 billion baby pangasius a year.
The high-tech breeding area in the membrane house was built. Currently, the group is running a keeping area for selected broodstock and building more infrastructure for producing commercial pangasius fingerlings in the membrane house. In spite of being located in an unfavorable position where there are many difficulties like no power supply source or exposure to natural disasters that, to a certain extent, hinder its operations, the corporation decided to invest here because this pangasius farming area is located in the upstream of Tien River where the water is of the best quality. Another advantage is that the farming area is far from residential areas and free from external environmental effects to ensure biosecurity in production. In particular, this location is near the breeding ground of natural pangasius where soil is fitting for building pangasius production areas.
Currently, Viet Uc Seafood Corporation is a pioneer and the only operator of broodstock breeding program.
Mr. Vo Minh Khoi, Acting Director of Viet Uc An Giang Joint Stock Company, said that An Giang is an upstream province of the Mekong River with abundant surface water and groundwater - the most wonderful living condition for fish. And, An Giang province has also offered favorable conditions to attract leading aquatic companies in particular and pangasius companies in general to invest here. At the same time, the province is also a bridge to link aquaculture households to value chains to gradually increase the fish farming area to meet safety standards of the province and sustain An Giang fishery. This is a very favorable environment for seafood businesses to invest here.
“Viet Uc Seafood Corporation believes that the high-tech pangasius production zone in An Giang province will be a premise for developing pangasius farming in the Mekong Delta with comprehensive breakthroughs in all aspects and linking three-level quality pangasius stock production to sustain pangasius farming,” he added.
“With the support from An Giang province in general and Tan Chau town in particular, with the determination of Viet Uc Seafood Corporation, we hope to build a kingdom of pangasius here to supply a source of high-quality pangasius, not only for An Giang province, but also neighboring provinces”, said Khoi.
