Vietnam Posts Motorbike Output up 24.4 per cent in Jan-Apr

 

Motorbike manufacturers in Vietnam are estimated to manufacture 579,833 motorbikes in the first four months of this year, up 24.4 per cent year on year, according to the government's General Statistics Office (GSO).

 

In April alone, motorbike assemblers are forecast to produce 156,640 units, up 10.1 per cent compared with the same period last year.

 

In the January-March period, they turned out over 423,193 units.

 

Foreign-invested firms still dominate the country's motorbike industry with a combined assembly of over 417,615 units in the whole period (up 18.1 per cent on year) and 113,590 units in April (up 7.8 per cent). The private sector manufactures 148,225 units (up 64.8 per cent) and 38,800 (up 25.7 per cent) and the state-owned sector makes 13,993 units (down 37.5 per cent) and 4,250 (down 29 per cent), respectively.

 

In the first three months, the foreign-invested, private and state-owned sectors turned out 304,025 units, 109,425 units and 9,743 units, respectively.

 

Vietnam now has seven foreign-invested motorbike production joint ventures and about 45 local motorbike makers, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
