Visa, the world’s leader in digital payments, and Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex/PLX), today officially announced the rollout of Visa contactless payments at Petrolimex-owned petrol stations across the country.
Petrolimex first started accepting Visa card payments in 2021 and the addition of contactless payment acceptance will provide a faster, more secure payment experience for consumers, while reducing checkout queues and increasing operational efficiency.
Ms. Dang Tuyet Dung, Visa Country Manager for Vietnam and Laos said: “Contactless payments allow motorists to refuel and be back on the road with a single tap. This will make queues shorter and service faster, while keeping consumers and their transactions safe. We look forward to introducing further payment innovations in partnership with Petrolimex to enhance the lives of Vietnamese people.”
Petrolimex has installed contactless enabled POS terminals at retail petrol stations nationwide, enabling customers to pay with a single tap of their Visa cards. The newly deployed POS device meets all fire safety regulations, integrates with the pump, and connects wirelessly (Wi-Fi) to serve customers paying right at the pump.
In a contactless transaction the card never leaves the customer’s hands, helping to prevent fraud while also keeping customers and petrol station employees safer amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Luu Van Tuyen, Deputy General Director – Head of the Cashless Payment of Petrolimex Project said: “The official application of cashless payment solutions to the system of Petrolimex's petrol stations across the country is part of the strategy of building Vietnam National Petroleum Group into a leading enterprise in digital transformation. This strategy is based on intelligent, safe and innovative technology to optimize serving quality and consolidate the trust and satisfaction of customers. At the same time, it will provide further momentum for the digital transformation process at Petrolimex. Up to now, Petrolimex has completed the installation of POS terminals at all automized petrol stations across the country.”
Vietnam is well on its way to embracing contactless payments as almost half (46%) of local consumers use this payment method, according to Visa’s Consumer Payment Attitudes 2021 study. In addition, 6 out of 10 contactless card users increased their use since COVID-19, while one-third of Vietnamese consumers foresee going cashless for petrol purchases in the future.
“Our team at Visa is constantly looking to increase convenience and efficiency in the payment journey. By facilitating contactless payments at petrol stations across Vietnam, we are transforming one of the most ordinary activities in our lives. This is how we are setting the ground for Vietnam’s digital transformation – starting with small-ticket-size transactions and everyday spending,” added Ms. Dang Tuyet Dung.
