K Hospital and Roche Pharma Vietnam Co-organized International Cancer Forum “Diagnosis and treatment: Going Beyond for Patients in challenging times”

Recently, K Hospital and Roche Pharma Vietnam co-organized a 2-day scientific forum themed "Cancer diagnostic and treatments: Going Beyond for Patients in challenging times” with the attendance of 200 doctors and experts in oncology. The forum brought an opportunity to discuss and update solutions in cancer management for three popular types of cancers in Vietnam which will help to prolong overall survival and disease-free progression for cancer patients and decrease burdens to cancers’ caregivers and families in challenging times.

In Vietnam, the rising burden of cancers is a major health concern. According to data from Vietnam National Cancer Institute and GLOBOCAN, cancer burdens in Vietnam have tripled in the past 20 years, from 68,000 cases in 2000 to 182,563 in 2020. In 2020, 122,690 deaths from cancer - 18 times the total number of 6,700 deaths from traffic accidents in the same year and 3 times the total number of 43,094 deaths due to the Covid-19 as of August 2022.

Cancer patients have to cope up with overwhelming difficulties. Many patients can neither access highly effective therapies nor afford to pursue treatments without financial support. Cancers also create overwhelming burdens on patients’ families, caregivers, doctors and health systems as a whole. Under the outbreak of Covid-19 and the threads of a twindemic, those burdens significantly increased.

With the common goal of delivering better experiences, results and quality of life for cancer patients in challenging times, K Hospital and Roche Pharma Vietnam co-organized the scientific forum themed “Cancer diagnostic and treatments: Going Beyond for Patients in challenging times”. The event welcomed the participation of distinguished domestic and foreign cancer experts from University of Ulsan College of Medicine, Korea, National Cancer Centre Singapore, K, HCMC Oncology, University of Medical Center HCMC, Bach Mai, 108, Hanoi Oncology, Da Nang Oncology, Hue, National Lung, Tam Anh Hospital.
