As a long-standing technology partner of Audi globally, ABB E-mobility was selected to deliver its market-leading electric vehicle chargers in Vietnam for the launch of new all-electric Audi e-tron GT quattro, Audi’s first electric car to hit the Vietnamese market.
Like many similar Asian countries, Vietnam is experiencing rapid urbanization. The rate of car ownership is forecasted to grow thirty-five-fold from 2010 to 2050. To help mitigate the environmental impact of this increase, it is vital that the sector evolves by embracing e-mobility solutions.

2022 marks many changes in the electric vehicle market in Vietnam. Reputable car manufacturers, such as Audi, have realized their plans by bringing electric car models to the country. While the Vietnamese government’s incentives for e-mobility is still in the first phase, the progress in e-mobility being driven by well established vehicle manufacturers shows the important role that electric cars will play in Vietnam’s future.
To deliver a premium charging experience for Audi customers, ABB delivered a range of charging solutions to Audi Tan Binh, the largest service center of Audi in Vietnam, which serves customers in the south of the country. ABB charging solutions include its AC wallbox chargers ranging from 7kW to 22 kW, and DC chargers ranging from 24 kW to 180 kW.
Located outdoor for easy access, the Terra 184 DC fast charger is a modular DC fast charging system with high output current capabilities. This CCS2 charge post offers a wide range of output voltage from 150-920VDC and can deliver up to 375A and 180 kW continuously, making it a highly flexible solution. The Terra 184 DC charger can add 100 miles of range in as little as 10 minutes as well as fast-charge two vehicles at the same time in less than 20 minutes.
Terra DC wallbox 24 kW, AC wallbox 11 kW and AC wallbox 22 kW chargers are also installed at Audi Tan Binh’s workshop, handover and showroom areas to provide high-quality and effective charging points. These chargers are easy to fit with a compact design and allow Audi’s technical staff to meet customer’s different charging requirements.
Audi Tan Binh marks Audi Vietnam’s start of fast charging in Vietnam, and the beginning of a new era for premium customers. The next Audi fast-charging site will be launched before the end of 2022 in Ho Chi Minh City, District 1. It is Audi’s plan to offer an attractive fast-charging network, with ABB serving as a partner supporting the network expansion.
“In the context of rapid urbanization, Vietnam needs new solutions to help its cities develop sustainably. Clean mobility solutions will play an essential role in improving the urban environment. We are delighted to join forces with Audi to drive electric car adoption in Vietnam by offering safe, smart and sustainable charging infrastructure, helping the country move towards becoming a low-carbon society,” said Noel Hupont, Vice President, ABB Vietnam.
“Audi Vietnam selected ABB to bring premium fast charging DC and AC solutions to Vietnam. Audi is committed to a fully electric product range by 2026, and our award-winning e-tron GT, which just launched on the opening of Audi Tan Binh, marks the start of Audi going electric together with ABB in Vietnam” said Mr. Laurent Genet, General Director Audi Vietnam importer. “Audi Vietnam is now building dependable charging in key locations. The next will be in our renovated Audi Ho Chi Minh City right in the center of District 1”.
