As one of leading producers, processors and exporters of fruits and vegetables, Tien Giang Fruits and Vegetables Joint Stock Company (VEGETIGI) has been asserting a solid position in the market, thus increasing production value, diversifying agricultural products and vegetables, and facilitating local agricultural development and socioeconomic development.

Constant growth

Tien Giang Fruits and Vegetables Joint Stock Company, formerly known as Long Dinh Frozen Factory, a 100% state-owned enterprise, was established in 1977. After more than 40 years of development, the company has built a strong foundation. VEGETIGI currently offers a wide range of fruit juices and juice concentrates, canned and stored in aseptic bags, frozen fruits processed by advanced IQF freezing technology with various specifications, canned fruit and vegetable products and other foods. The company’s production lines are capable of annually processing 10,000 tons of frozen products, 5,000 tons of canned food, and 4000 tons of concentrated and pure juices.

After each step of development, VEGETIGI has marked certain successes. In 1992, the company installed the first canning system to produce canned pineapples for export in addition to frozen pineapple for export. In 1997, VEGETIGI was the first company in Vietnam to install a concentrated fruit juice processing system, furnished with equipment imported from Krupp-GFT of Germany.

In 2006, VEGETIGI was transformed into a joint stock company. After going public, the company's output increased significantly, from 7,618 tons of finished products in 2006 to 14,632 tons in 2011.

In July 2015, the government divested all stakes in the company, making Tien Giang Fruits and Vegetables Joint Stock Company a 100% privatized joint stock company.

In 2012, the company was selected as the sole supplier of canned and bagged quail eggs for the Japanese market. VEGETIGI not only applied strict Japanese production standards, but also supplied highest-quality quail eggs which were carefully selected. Following this success, from only a small amount of export containers in the first years, in 2019, VEGETIGI sold 90 containers of quail eggs worldwide, largely shipped to Japan, Singapore and the United States.

In addition, the company successfully shifted from the only product of pineapple to a wide range of locally sourced products like mango, dragon fruit and jackfruit. In 2019, its canned young jackfruit was purchased by Aldi, one of the largest and most famous supermarket chains in Europe.

From 2020 onwards, especially in 2021, despite being heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, VEGETIGI managed to overcome all difficulties in the way to fulfill the dual goal of "epidemic prevention and production development". The company is the first company in Vietnam to export IQF-certified young jackfruits in large quantities to Europe, estimated at 400 tons a year. This is resulted from continuous investment in R&D and ongoing focus on innovative products. In the first seven months of 2022, the company exported 6,200 tons and ensured jobs for 720 production employees.

Sustainable development

Lying in the largest fruit area in Vietnam, VEGETIGI has a pioneering vision to develop a digital, green and sustainable agricultural value chain by providing natural, safe, life-giving products for all, especially for farmers.

To ensure input supply sources for production, the company worked out a concentrated material area development project in Tan Phuoc district (Tien Giang) where standards are strictly controlled and all raw materials are classified. All disqualified materials are returned to suppliers. VEGETIGI also has a department that works with farms to help update farmers with new regulations, monitor crops, guide them to increase productivity and solve difficult problems.

Always aware of the importance of environmental protection, VEGETIGI regularly monitors emissions and treats waste appropriately. This is mandatory and embedded in its policies that all employees must adhere to.

Not only focusing on production and business activities, VEGETIGI also takes the lead in social security. All employees are always offered all obligatory social welfare benefits like a safe working environment, annual health check-ups and vacations. Besides, health insurance and unemployment benefits are fully ensured.

Furthermore, the company is active in social security activities like building houses for disadvantaged families in Tan Phuoc and Chau Thanh districts, supporting Vietnamese heroic mothers, and helping local economic development projects.

Mr. Alex Tran, General Director of Tien Giang Fruits and Vegetables Joint Stock Company, said that, with today's success, VEGETIGI always receives attention, support and assistance from all levels of government. The province provided farmland for material production areas; localities support and facilitate the company in many aspects and provide high-quality human resources for production.

VEGETIGI's quality management systems meet various standards and requirements like BRC, ISO 22000:2005, HACCP, SMETA, FDA, RSK, HALAL and KOSHER. Its products have been exported to many major markets such as the EU, the US, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Russia, the Middle East and some other markets in the world.

In the coming time, VEGETIGI will continue to develop new products for the market and enter the supermarket system to serve more domestic consumers and for export.

“This affirms the solid position of VEGETIGI, and assists local socioeconomic development in particular and improves the competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products in the world market in general,” he said.
