Zamil Steel Vietnam, the country’s largest pre-engineered steel company, has shipped 300 tons of mobile sheds pre-engineered building components to Singapore, becoming the first steel-maker in the country to export such materials.

The company said it won a contract to supply its mobile shed – a movable steel structure – to Jurong Shipyard, a leading Singaporean shipbuilder.

Zamil did not disclose the value of the contract, citing its client’s request to keep the details confidential.

“Although we cannot reveal the value, 300 tons of pre-engineered steel is considered a major export contract in the steel industry,” said a company spokeswoman.

The company earned US$52 million in sales revenue last year, registering an 18 per cent on-year increase, which it attributed to increasing demand for the material.

Owned by Zamil Steel Industry of Saudi Arabia and Mitsui Company of Japan, Zamil Steel Vietnam recently began work on a second facility in the country, increasing its total investment in Vietnam to more than US$40 million.

According to the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA), 50 construction steel producers in Vietnam sold a total of 3.1 million tons of steel last year, up 10.5 per cent over the previous year.
