Cooperation between Vietnam and the United Kingdom (UK) is expanding across digital finance, fintech, digital assets, and cybersecurity, while driving knowledge sharing as Vietnam develops its international financial centers.

UK Trade Commissioner Martin Kent addresses the UK-Vietnam High-Level Conference in Hanoi

The recent visit to Vietnam by a delegation of UK fintech businesses led by Martin Kent, UK Trade Commissioner for Asia Pacific, shows that economic cooperation between the two countries is expanding into technology, innovation and financial services. The discussions focused not only on business opportunities but also on issues related to Vietnam’s development of international financial centers.

The UK fintech delegation to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City included companies working in areas such as open banking, digital identity, payments, digital assets, cybersecurity and core banking technology, including Ozone API, Sumsub, iProov, Elliptic, SaaScada, MyCena, Unlimit, CyberQ Group, Traydstream and GMEX Group. These areas were also presented at the UK-Vietnam High-level Conference in Hanoi, which brought together more than 100 representatives from government agencies, the banking sector and the technology industry.

While discussions between the UK fintech delegation and regulatory agencies focused largely on cooperation frameworks, the program with the business community showed that these technologies could be applied across a range of economic sectors.

Trade Commissioner Martin Kent met Vietjet Air Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Tam Anh General Hospital System Chairman Ngo Chi Dung, and members of the UK business community in Vietnam. Discussions focused on opportunities to expand bilateral trade and investment, support infrastructure and aviation development, and strengthen trade partnerships between the two countries.

As UK companies seek cooperation opportunities in financial services, digital finance and cybersecurity, meetings with Vietnamese businesses also create opportunities to connect these solutions with development needs in other economic sectors.

Trade Commissioner Martin Kent said Vietnam is one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic digital economies and is becoming an increasingly important partner for the United Kingdom. According to him, bilateral trade has reached £10 billion, and both sides want to continue growing trade.

He also said that the UK fintech delegation’s visit to Vietnam aimed to seek new cooperation opportunities in financial services, digital finance and cybersecurity. As Vietnam pursues its plans to develop international financial centers, the United Kingdom is committed to sharing experience and expertise by strengthening cooperation among the governments, regulators and business communities of the two countries.

This approach is based on three areas: business connections, stronger exchanges among regulatory agencies and experience-sharing. It also provides a basis for fintech, digital assets, cybersecurity and financial infrastructure to become more concrete areas of cooperation in Vietnam-UK economic relations.

As Vietnam promotes the development of international financial centers, stronger links with a partner with strengths in financial services, financial technology and financial management will open up another area of cooperation. For businesses in both countries, the value of these connections will lie in turning policy, technology and market discussions into concrete cooperation opportunities, further strengthening the Vietnam-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
