The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) will help Shattuck-St. Mary’s Vietnam International School connect with the business community to explore cooperation in organizing youth golf and pickleball tournaments and developing scholarship programs for talented students. VCCI Vice President Nguyen Quang Vinh said this at a recent meeting with John Jeon Huh, Chairman of the Board of Shattuck-St. Mary’s Vietnam International School, at VCCI headquarters.

Huh shared plans to organize a friendly golf tournament for young athletes and a pickleball event in January 2027. Both initiatives aim to attract young athletes, identify students who excel academically and in sports, and provide scholarship opportunities at the school. The golf tournament will offer scholarships to students with outstanding academic performance. The pickleball program will combine youth competitions with introductory sessions led by experienced players, including Phil McCarville, an American basketball coach at the school who previously played in the NBA and now competes professionally in pickleball in Vietnam.

Huh asked VCCI to help connect the school with Vietnamese companies, potential sponsors, and families interested in international education. Through these connections, the school hopes to attract more students and secure funding for its scholarship programs.

Vinh welcomed the proposals and suggested that the school work directly with the VCCI branch in Hai Phong, which has experience organizing sports events for the business community. He also suggested that the school consider joining the branch and signing a memorandum of understanding to establish a framework for joint activities. VCCI could support these initiatives by lending its organizational credibility and promoting them among its member companies.

Located in Hai Phong, Shattuck-St. Mary’s Vietnam International School is the first American-style boarding school in Vietnam. It currently has around 75 students and more than 32 teachers, with plans to gradually expand its educational program through Grade 12. The campus covers approximately 7.5 hectares and features sports facilities, including a golf practice area, tennis courts, an indoor sports hall, and soccer fields.
