Recently, Seiko Epson Corp. ("Epson") had announced the development of the new S1D19501 series of driver ICs for 176 x 220-dot TFT LCDs, the mainstream display for mobile phones. Shipment of engineering samples has already begun.

The S1D19501 series is a line-up of one-chip drivers for driving amorphous Si-TFT LCDs embedded with display data RAM (176 x 220 x 18 bit) and capable of displaying 262K colors. By embedding a 220-output gate driver and 176 (RGB)-output source driver, as well as the power circuits needed for display onto one chip, it has become possible for a single chip to display a TFT color panel module of a maximum of 176 (RBG) x 220 dots.

Furthermore, as a result of employing the super slim technology of the 0.13 µm process, the short side of the chip has been reduced to approximately 1 mm, which is 34% that of conventional products.

Product Features
Display of 262K colors and 176 (RGB) x 220 pixels is realized by a single chip
A super slim chip (approx. 1 mm short side) fabricated using the 0.13 µm process
Equipped with programmable non-volatile memory (Multi Time PROM) for VCOM adjustment
